Lavalamps - Lava Lamp Death - Information (powered by evoArticles)
On November 30, 2004, a lava lamp explosion in Kent, Washington killed a 24 year-old man. How did this lava lamp death occur? The man had decided to heat his lamp on his own home stove! And so, the lava lamp explodes, rocketing a shard of glass into the man’s heart. He was killed almost instantly. The police reported that he was not under the influence of any drugs or alcohol. No one can say for sure why he did it.
But don’t worry, your lava lamp is not going to explode, just don’t heat it with anything but the light bulb designated for use with your lava lamp.

The wax would have contributed more heat from inside creating pressurised steam and an explosion- poor guy... imagine what went through his mind, dying alone like that.
I once knocked my lava lamp over and the wax inside sort of smashed. It was most weird, it almost sort of emusified with the fluid and there were a million little blobs that didn't join back together. To all intents and purposes it was ruined. With nothing to lose, I theorised that if I heated it up enough, all the wax would go to the top and stay there, and if there was enough heat in it that it would melt back together. I put it in a pan of water on the cooker and left it there on a low heat, with the water boiling until it did what I had hoped. Clearly from the original article, I'd taken more of a risk than I imagined, but perhaps that's what the guy who died was trying to do?
